⊹ What we treat

Jaw pain comes in many forms. We treat them all.

Whether it's a clicking jaw that's been getting louder, morning headaches from nighttime grinding, or a splint that just isn't working — we can help.

TMJ Disorder

Pain, stiffness or tenderness in the jaw joint itself.

Jaw clicking & popping

Disc displacement that makes every yawn or bite audible.

Bruxism & clenching

Grinding during sleep or day-time clenching from stress.

Tension headaches

Morning or end-of-day headaches linked to jaw & neck tension.

Jaw locking

Jaw that gets stuck open or closed — or catches mid-yawn.

Ear & facial pain

Ear pressure, ringing or facial ache the GP can't explain.

Neck-driven jaw pain

When the upper cervical spine is the real driver.

Post-dental jaw pain

After wisdom teeth, long dental work or when a splint isn't holding.

⊹ What's actually going on

TMJ pain isn't "just stress." It's a mechanical problem with a musculoskeletal fix.

Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most-used joints in your body. When the muscles, disc or nerves around it get dysfunctional, everything from chewing to sleep suffers. These are the most common root causes we see.

/ 01

Muscle overuse & clenching

Masseter, temporalis and pterygoid muscles go into chronic spasm from daytime clenching or nighttime bruxism. The fix: targeted release and motor-pattern retraining.

/ 02

Disc displacement

The small disc inside your TMJ slips out of position — causing clicking, popping, or the jaw locking open or closed. Manual mobilisation can help restore proper tracking.

/ 03

Cervical spine dysfunction

A large proportion of jaw pain cases have an upper-neck component. The C1–C3 vertebrae refer pain directly into the jaw, face and ears via the trigeminocervical nucleus.

/ 04

Stress-held posture

Forward head posture, chronic jaw tension from screen work, or anxiety-driven clenching. Without addressing the load pattern, splints and dental work don't hold.

/ 05

Post-trauma or dental work

Whiplash, a long dental procedure or wisdom-tooth extraction can all throw TMJ mechanics off. Patients sometimes come to us months or years after the trigger event.

/ Why us

We treat the whole kinetic chain.

Most clinics treat the jaw OR the neck OR the posture. Our combined chiropractic and physio team assesses all three — which matters because the real driver is often not where the pain is.

⊹ How we treat jaw pain

A 4-step approach built around your jaw — not a generic protocol.

Your first visit is a proper assessment. We'll tell you honestly what's going on, what treatment looks like, and roughly how many sessions we think you'll need.

01

Comprehensive assessment

60-minute first visit. Full TMJ, cervical and postural exam. Review any imaging, dental splint or prior notes. You leave with a clear care plan.

60 min
02

Hands-on treatment

TMJ mobilisation, intra-oral muscle release, cervical adjusting and soft-tissue work where appropriate. Always with your consent on technique.

30 min
03

Home protocol

A short daily routine personalised to your case — filmed on your phone during the session so you're never guessing at home.

5 min/day
04

Review & discharge

We re-test against your starting point. When you're better, we discharge you — with a maintenance plan only if it's genuinely needed.

⊹ Meet the team

A chiropractor-led, physio-supported approach.

Jaw pain sits at the intersection of joint mechanics, muscle tension and posture. Our team is set up to treat all three — in the same clinic, often in the same visit.

⊹ Chiropractor
LW

Dr. Lawrence Woods

Principal Chiropractor

Lawrence focuses on complex, longstanding musculoskeletal cases — including jaw, neck and disc-related pain. Patients frequently describe him as someone who "sees the whole picture" rather than treating the pain in isolation.

⊹ Chiropractor
S

Dr. Sinead

Chiropractor

Sinead works alongside the team on TMJ, cervical and chronic pain cases. Her approach is methodical and consent-led, with a strong focus on explaining what's happening at every step so you understand your own care.

⊹ Physiotherapist
KR

Kate Ryan

Physiotherapist

Kate brings physiotherapy, cold laser and shockwave therapy into the mix. For jaw patients, her role is often the muscular and rehab side — the "homework" layer that makes chiropractic changes hold.

⊹ FAQ

Everything you want to know before you book.

Can't find your answer? Call us on 01 555 0189 — we're happy to answer quick questions before you commit.

How is this different from seeing my dentist or GP? +
Your dentist is an expert on teeth and can fit splints; your GP can rule out medical causes and prescribe. Neither typically treats the muscles, joint mechanics and cervical spine components that drive most TMJ cases. We work alongside your dentist and GP — we're the musculoskeletal part of the picture.
Do I need a GP or dental referral? +
No. In Ireland you can self-refer directly to a chiropractor or physiotherapist. If we believe another specialist should see you first, we'll tell you on day one and refer you appropriately.
Do you accept Laya / VHI / Irish Life? +
We don't process insurance claims directly at this time. We'll issue you a detailed receipt after every session that you can submit to your insurer — most Irish plans reimburse a portion of chiropractic or physiotherapy fees. Please check the specifics with your insurer before your first visit.
How many sessions will I need? +
It varies. After your initial assessment we'll give you a realistic estimate — based on how long the problem has been there, what you've tried, and how your jaw and neck present on the day. We prefer to under-promise and discharge you when you're better, rather than book you into an open-ended plan.
Will you crack my neck? Is it safe? +
Sometimes cervical adjustments are part of care — but only with your informed consent, and only after appropriate screening. We also use low-force techniques (mobilisation, soft-tissue work) for patients who prefer not to be adjusted. You're always in control of which techniques we use.
What about intra-oral treatment — is that a thing? +
Yes. The pterygoid muscles (inside your mouth) are major drivers of TMJ pain and can't be reached from outside. When appropriate, we use gloved intra-oral release — it takes only a few minutes per session and patients often report significant relief afterwards. It's always optional.
My splint isn't helping. Can you still treat me? +
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people come to us. Splints address the bite but not the muscles, joint mechanics or cervical input. We often work alongside a patient's existing splint rather than replacing dental care.
What if I'm really nervous about chiropractic? +
That's completely fine. The first visit is primarily assessment and conversation — we don't do any treatment you haven't agreed to. Many jaw patients work mostly with our physiotherapist, or with low-force chiropractic techniques. You set the pace.
